After viewing the brackets it's time to go all districts.
Curious as to why? Smaller brackets? Too many good wrestlers being left home while others get through in weaker districts? I like sectionals as is, I don't always understand the alignment process but I like having sectionals for the smaller schools.

Lot's of people talking about that today. Let's be honest....the State only keeps the Sectional tradition going for 1 reason.....$$$$. Agreed there is some great wrestling at sectionals...but you would have the same great wrestling if you took all 15/16 schools to a District site. Most of the regular Season tournaments use the 16 man bracket format. Most brackets would have 12 kids or less. In the end...you will still have the best 2 kids going to state...that's what it's all about. I really don't care either way...it's just one more day of handing over time and money to watch kids compete in a great sport.
Now....to really stir the pot.....I know we don't like change. How about starting the traditional tournament on Wednesday...finals on Friday night. State Duals on Saturday. Now you would have a true State Duals with all the best wrestlers participating. Frustrating to go Wednesday and watch JV kids....especially when you know the #3 and #6 ranked kids are suppose to wrestle each other, but don't because of the upcoming State tournament.

---------------------------------THIS is a valid concern.
Or how about this. . . have the IHSAA or IGHSAU host a two day state tournament for girls, and host state duals in conjunction with that event. Wrestling coaches get what they want (dual tournament the weekend after), girls get their own stand alone tournament. It could be hosted at the Jacobsen Center, US Cellular Center, or some other venue.
"whataburger99" you are 100% correct. Traditional should be Wed/Thur/Fri! State duals Sat! They can't say having kids come for Wed would be not supported by administration either! Cuz they added sessions prior to Moving State duals to Wed. Years ago it was Thur/Fri/Sat traditional and state duals a week later. Which was bad! Then they added a day and Traditional State was Wed/Thur/Fri/Sat! Then went to State Duals Wed and Traditional back to Thur/Fri/Sat. State said wanted it that way because Administrations from schools did not want kids out of school for 4 days! I call BS because they had it that way before and made $$$$$. State duals are not as entertaining as they could be because of coaches don't put certain kids on mat from fear of injury or may see them in the traditional format. Takes away from TRUE STATE DUAL CHAMPION! That is Fact

I am not sure I agree of getting rid of sectionals. An off year in certain weights does not justify dumping it all together. There were plenty of full brackets and decent matches across the state to justify it.
As far as the duals are concerned i agree. I attended the Riverside sectional this past weekend and i havent really had the chance to see them but Underwood has a lot of tough wrestlers. Even the ones who you could tell have not been wrestling very long had some fight like no other. Then you have the kids who have been wrestling for a while and HOLY MOLY. They destroyed everyone. Then I here in the stands that Underwood is sending its JV to duals on Tuesday. I cant blame them.... no way would i risk like that win some stupid dual over a individual state championship.
Good to see some coaches still put their kids 1st. I wish every school would send there JV then things would change.
Apparently kids who were hurt in past State Duals on Wed prior to State Indiv was not concerning enough to them. Their reply was "they could get hurt in practice too"......haha. I doubt kids are going that hard to get injured the night prior to State Indiv. But whatever......Throw tradition out the window too as far as Sat night finals. All in all it's best for fans/coaches/kids to change to Sat the day after a Friday night Final. Actually without knowing for sure but I would say Better Gate for the Duals on a Sat day after too which implies to more $$$$$ for State. One way to find out.....DO IT.

Getting hurt is a risk sure but what about making weight an extra day, Wrestling 3-4 matches against good quality opponents, and not being able to have a light work out and relax? That has to take something out of you, mentally and physically.
3 warmups, 3 usually tough matches is not how you would conduct a practice the day before the state tournament. Plus the 4 weigh ins. Have them on Tuesday so kids can get a days rest, plus you would eliminate the xtra pound every other kid gets who's team does'nt qualify for duals.
I think everyone should wrestle everyone, then the losers of those 1st 16 rounds go into a pool and pick out at-large dual teams, wrestle those duals from 1 am Sat to 5 pm Sat, then have rest of ind tourn finish up by 6 am Sunday, then before church have finals of duals, then after church have ind all champion free for all, those top 4 and 8 more at large people will then wrestle the assistant coaches and those winners will take on the head coaches and ADs on Mon am. those winners will go to Kentucky to wrestle their champions Tuesday with 1 lb allowance, with winner traveling to Bulgaria for the right to wrestle the Mars champions for the honor to travel or host, home team determined by the almighty coin flip, the Universal championship, on Wed.
Until this year I would say get rid of sectionals, However after watching the kids joy of getting through who dont have much of a shot getting through sectionals I have changed my mind. Its well worth it for those kids and parents, and teams. Its a step forward for next year, its a seniors chance to wrestle one more time, its a reason to come to practice and work hard another week. Its worth it for the kids, the parents, the team, the school, and the sport.
first off rayfox, not all champions from each weight class will be in the state duals for sat.......so would not be 5 matches for them. however could be and most likely there will be state champs on a state dual team. so yes that would not be a good idea. Having 3 matches the Day prior to a State Indiv tourn not smart either. Question??- Do you think at the College Level Division 1 for example would Do that to their athletes the Day Prior to a National Tourn? Answer- I think we all know .........Not a chance in the world! Not on any level!
There is a limit on the number of matches that can be wrestled in a day... I want to say five is the most but I could be wrong on that. However, I am for leaving it alone... Keep sectionals but look into realignment?
