Early weigh ins for youth tournaments. How do you feel about this. I noticed it is becoming more and more common. Yes, I know it makes money for people putting on tournament but what I want to know is. Have you done it? Does it give an advantage? Is it giving you a better experience when traveling when you don't have to sleep hungry to make sure you don't accidentally end up .1 over the next morning. Gives you more time to focus on some fun before the event? Or is it just unfair because your kid doesn't loose weight and others will and be a couple lbs heavier the next day.
Xmas nationals has an option for early weigh ins. I think we might do it so we can go eat, do some shopping and maybe hit a movie before hitting the hotel for some shuteye.

Early weigh-ins promotes cutting weight. It puts those who wrestle their normal weight at a disadvantage. Bigger kids have time to hydrate and get 2 or 3 meals in after sucking way down in weight. To combat this, tournaments spanning multiple days should require weigh-ins each day, with no increasing allowance.
Having said that, we don't cut but still use early weigh-ins when it's free. I won't pay extra to do it, but it's nice to be able to sleep in a little later the morning of the tournament.

I prefer weigh in the morning of wrestling and then just wrestle. The kids will have to get used to it anyway, that is what they will be doing in high school and beyond if they survive youth wrestling.
