The last 3 years CGD has wrestled all their "district" qualifiers in the regional and state duals because they had the team to beat, this year they and most others can't touch New Hampton so they chose to sit this year out. It would be different if the association would have kept the duals the way they were, after the traditional tournament....but we all know the money must be kept in Des Moines!! I see Fort Dodge is keeping a few of their studs out tonight, but again they are a better tourney team than dual so what's the point? I was bummed also that CGD didn't wrestle as redmachine....I think Tanner can get Geerts, would be huge to get it done in Des Moines.
I just wish the duals could be changed so all the teams wrestle their varsity but it is all about the $
Very interesting point. They did do that when they had a chance to compete for both titles. I would like to think as a coach I would want the matchups that are important to my kids. IE big matches to get out of the way or see where we match up against other tough competition. I believe if a wrestlers is 95% or more and made weight they should be out there competing. Or bump everyone up a weight class and let them skip making weight but still get a match in. a loss isn't that big of a deal on a Tuesday night a week + away form state. I've never been a fan of bumping away form kids or not wrestling heads up.
