Just some predictions... may be missing some upper weights 106- Beck (Grinnell), Hatten (Winterset) 113- Reeves (Albia), Dale (CD) 120- Kauzlarich (Centerville), West (Winterset) 126- Fritz (So. Tama), Ruepke (Chariton) 132- Probasco (So. Tama), Keller (Saydel) 138- Vest (So. Tama), Morris (Albia) 145- Miller (PCM), Smith (Winterset) 152- Kelso (CD), Judge (So. Tama) 160- Roland (PCM), Rice (Saydel) 170- Trausch (PCM), Van Houten (Saydel) 182- Bair (Clarke), Rosenberg (So. Tama) 195- Ben Mason (Albia), Long (Bond) 220- Trace Carson (CD), Welch (PCM) 285- Hunter Jesse (Saydel), Bradley Tolley (Winterset)
Mine are pretty close.
I think Drake (PCM) will be in there at 106. He only has two losses since moving to 106 and has pinned Hatten (Winterset), Lillegard (Bondurant) and Becker (Saydel).
I didn't show Smith at 145 so I had Hollinrake (Knoxville). I don't see Smith ever wrestling 145 this season? I understand why he would want to move out of 152 but hard to do this late. Can he beat Hollinrake even if he does make weight? So far the list of Hollinrake's losses this year are #3 3A Graham (Johnston), #3 2A Miller (PCM) x2, #4 2A Swank (Creston) x2 and Boyer (EBF) and they've wrestled each other since pee wee. That's a pretty nice season.
160 Rice hasn't wrestled since hurting his elbow 1/14. Any idea if he wrestles this weekend? If not it opens up a spot for someone.
I show Mason at 182 and not making it through behind Bair, Rosenberg and Sprague in some order. Is he moving to 195? I think 195 is the biggest crap shoot with up to six kids that have a legit shot to get through.
220 - I have Bellon (Knoxville) 1st. Carson is probably 2nd but Welch beat him a couple weeks ago.
Looks like before Christmas Smith made 145 for a couple duals.
I see that 12/15. Looks like he's had a lot of close matches with good kids. Both looking for a win they could hang their hat on. Coming down from 152 he should be big. Makes 145 much more interesting.
Payton Drake PCM over Brock Beck (Grinnell) at sectionals in Bondurant
South Tama kid came in around 0.500 and took 220. I thought he pushed the pace and deserved to beat the Knoxville kid too. Everything else today at Bondurant looked pretty chalk. 145 was a little crazy starting with the seeding and then the Grinnell kid giving Miller a scare.
Tigerpower This isnt going to be the most popular thing said on this thread, But He doesnt really need to take the top kids down, If his leg riding is that tough He is going to have the option to ride at least one of the periods maybe two if his opponet chooses down. So in that scenario he has 4 minutes to score as opposed 2 mins in the first period. JMO
You're right that it's possible to win that way but it's much more difficult. It hinges on Smith's ability to not get taken down so he's not in a hole when he gets a chance to take top and then can he turn a good kid that knows that's the only way he gets beat? That's a hard way to win. So far this year in 20-25% of his matches he hasn't been able to do that.
All this if from the caveat that I've never seen the kid wrestle, I'm just speaking theoretically from having watched a lot of matches at national level tournaments where the kids are kids are more equal in physical ability and skill. At the school level pre-state the top kids don't get very many of those and even less in the smaller classes.
